Student Objectives/Student Outcomes: Short Term: 1. Students will quietly take notes during lecture. 2. Students will work cooperatively in groups, sharing tasks. 3. Students will present their assigned god in a confident manner, with enthusiasm. 4. The rest of the class will listen to the presenters with respect. Long Term: 5. Start of Class: State goals of class period: Content standard: Students will learn about main gods in ancient Egypts polytheistic religion. Language standard: Students will practice taking notes efficiently. Students will communicate evenly during group work and each student will play a role in presenting their groups god to the rest of the class with an appropriate speaking voice and eye contact. Social Goal: Students will avoid chitter chatter. Students will stay on task during group work. Students will listen to fellow presenters with respect. Introduction of Lesson: Teacher will prepare class for the days activities which will include a brief lecture, group work, presentations and then a class vote. Lesson Instruction: Teacher will go through the mini lecture on Egypts gods, adopted from co -op. Assessments/Checks for Understanding: Teacher will divide class into 5 groups. This will be done by clumping students where they are already seated. Each group will be handed a packet about an Egyptian god (each group gets a different god). These packets include a few paragraphs of information from various secondary sources about their god. A couple pictures will also be attached. Students must use this information to complete the bio worksheet (attached), as a group, on their god. Each group will be given 1-3 minutes to present their god with the goal of convincing (monotheistic) Pharaoh Akhenaten to take back their god. Students are encouraged to be enthusiastic in their presentations, in the style of political campaigns or television advertisements. Group members should either participate as a writer, reader or presenter. Closure/Wrap-Up/Review: The class will discuss which gods seem most important and then vote on which god should be brought back. Groups cannot vote for their own god. Self-Assessment:
