It was great to meet all of the parents at Back to School Night! Thank you to all the families that came out to visit us and learn more about this school year.

MATH

SCIENCE In Science, Students have created their in class ecosystems! Students are now observing the ecosystems and will be able to: Identify the basic needs of plants Identify how organism interact Identify how organisms get energy Identify the flow of energy through an ecosystem

Students will be able to: demonstrate an understanding of place value of whole numbers up to one million. -Read and write whole numbers from zero to one million using numbers, words and expanded form. -Compare whole numbers using symbols -Explain the value of a digit based on its position in a number using the base ten system. -Round whole numbers to any place (tens, hundreds, thousands, etc.)

UPDATES:

If you didnt already do so, please contact your childs teacher to set up a parent conference for the week of November 11, 2013. Conferences can be held in person, via phone call, or email.

READING/WRITING

Students are reading nonfiction books in guided reading groups. Students will be able to:
Identify a describe story elements Identify and compare different narrators points of view. Use text evidence to support. Make inferences using text support. Identify and compare themes within literature (stories, poems, plays). Identify the main idea of a text with supporting details Describe events and ideas using chronology in text structure.

In writing students are creating their own historical fiction story. Students have chosen a specific time period or historical event for the setting and have located information and images from print and digital resources to use as details and descriptions in their stories.

SOCIAL STUDIES

In Social Studies, students are learning about the Native Americans of North America: The Eastern Woodlands. While learning about these people students will be able to: Describe similarities and differences of family life to their own.

Interims were distributed on Oct. 2nd PBIS celebrations: Oct. 4th Open House: Monday, Oct. 14th No School: Friday, Oct. 18th Literacy Night: Thursday, Oct. 24th Book Fair: Oct. 21-25 End of Quarter 1: Oct. 31st Halloween Celebrations: Oct. 31st No School: Friday, Nov. 1st Parent conferences: Nov. 11th and 12th these are early dismissal days

*** REMINDER: Students are expected to read for at least 20 minutes each night and complete a journal entry. Also please complete the Math Calendar Homework each night.***
