COMPONENTS OF ATTITUDES Attitude is a state of readiness from which motives arise.

An attitude has three components, cognitive core, affective values and behavioural action tendencies. The cognitive aspect of attitude has belief and ideas that a person has about the attitude object. The affective component includes the feeling of like and dislike toward any object and the behavioural aspect consists of intentions to respond in a particular way toward the object. These three aspects are part and parcel of each attitude. Neil (1987) emphasis as the following components of attitudes: Cognitive Component of Attitude We acquire most belicfs about a particular topic quite directly. Children, in particular, from attitudes through imitating or modelling the behaviour of people who play an important role in their lives. The tendency to indentify with the family unit (and later with peer groups) provides a strong incentive to adopt the group attitude. Affective Component of Attitude Affective components of attitudes can be very strong and pervasive and tends to be rather resistant to change; it persists for some time even after a person has altered his or her opinion on a particular subject. Behavioural Intentions Behavioural intentions are our goals, aspirations, and our expected responses to the attitude object.
