HUB and Switch

Hub and switch are almost identical in shape. But different in work.

HUB

Hub is used in Local Area Networks to connect computers with each other to share file and folders. Hub is not an intelligent device as compared to Switch. But its connectivity is almost same as Switch.
Switch is also used in LANs it is an efficient device than Hub as it can store MAC Addresses of LAN Cards for efficient data transfer.

Switch

Repeater
It is a device that amplifies and restores the power of a signal being transmitted on the network. It is used in long network lines.

ROUTER
When a switch also has the capability to share the Internet then it is called router. A router can share internet connection and other devices like printer, scanner, camera along with internet on the LAN.

On home networks, a broadband router typically serves as the network gateway although ordinary computers can also be configured to perform equivalent functions.

BRIDGE
It is a device that lets you link two same networks together. Same networks mean networks with same protocol.

GATEWAY
A network gateway is an internetworking system capable of joining together two networks that use different base protocols. This device usually a server is used to communicate between dissimilar networks i.e. networks with different protocols. e.g. to connect a LAN with Novell Netware with another LAN with Microsoft NT.
