UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA: The big idea is to have the students understand that animals reproduce and transmit hereditary information to their offspring, which is why they share similar traits. Animal Table Worksheet BACKGROUND and RATIONALE: Students will demonstrate an understanding that animals transmit hereditary traits with their offspring. Academic language not addressed in IDT 3600. Similarly, we will discuss the hereditary traits shared among plants. We will continue by discussing how animals and plants change as they grow. I fully intend on modifying the lesson for students who have not mastered the skills necessary for this task and for those who are exceed in this area. Although, IDT 3600 has not discussed modifications thus far. PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE: Introduction: Begin with a discussion about the students personal traits by asking about eye and hair color. Follow up the discussion with a question if they share these traits with their family members, and why they think they do. Explain that, like us, animals share traits with their offspring.

Procedures: Introduction (15 minutes) At the Computers (30 minutes) Teacher Procedure 1. Take students to the computer lab.

2. Have students login to the computers 3. Direct students to the Animal Table Worksheet. 4. Direct students to the MS Clipart Gallery website. 5. Monitor and assist as needed. Students Procedure 1. Login to computer. 2. Open Animal Table Worksheet on MS Word. 3. Open Internet Browser. 4. Type name and date. 5. Open MS Clipart Gallery website. 6. Teacher will end the class by asking what the students learned by doing this activity, and if there are any questions. ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE: Criteria Images represent the offspring of each animal in the chart. Pass Accurate graphics were chosen to represent the offspring of each animal. Fail The pictures chosen were of the wrong animal or age of animal.

MODIFICATIONS: I am aware that modifications will be made for students who did not master the objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered in this course and are not part of this particular lesson.
