Lamb 1/7/14 Sixth Grade Girls (Small Group) 45 minutes (can be modified) Academic Development: A:A1, B1.4 Personal/Social Development: PS:A1, PS:A2, PS:B1,PS:C1 Students will 1. Define self-esteem and body confidence in a way that applies to their lives. 2.Build relationships with group members that will begin to foster friendships and self-esteem. 3.Recognize the importance of self-esteem and body confidence in their overall well being. Group Work (large group discussion), Handouts, Assessment Assessment, Rules Worksheet, Walk the Line Activity Sheet, Self Esteem Supports Worksheet, Journals, I Am Me, homework sheets, news articles for parents Introduction and Assessment Introduce the group and individual members. Discuss the assessment and provide it for students to complete. Group Discussion Together as a group, members will establish the group rules for the group sessions. Activity Students will participate in a group activity to get to know each other. Walk the line consists of students stepping up to a line (or standing up) when a statement is read that applies to them. Instruction Defining Self-Esteem and Body Confidence. Put it in everyday terms that students can understand, apply and memorize. Self-Esteem Supports worksheet guides the learning. Wrap Up Hand out journals have them decorate journals as they wish. Homework sheets and I Am Me worksheet for guided journal reflection.Provide news articles for students to give to parents. Process Data: Out of the students that were polled, students responded that self esteem issues were their top concern. That is % of sixth through eighth graders. This is the first time that this group lesson has been so perception and outcome data have yet to be determined. The group has been selected based on the conflict resolution responses from students stating family issues was their top concern. Pre and Post assessments will be given to students to evaluate efficiency of program.
