Announcements
The 3rd Draft of your narrative is due Wednesday. Remember that you must save all your drafts to turn in with your final draft.
Opening Activity
Look at the passage at the top of the page and write down three rules about dialogue that you might know based on that passage.
DIRECTIONS
If you put the character and verb (boss, said) at the end of the sentence, you put your comma INSIDE the quotation marks.
4. ANOTHER RULE
You have to create a new paragraph or line for dialogue when you are writing a conversation. Never put a ton of dialogue in one paragraph! See samples on the next slide
4. EXAMPLESPLITTING UP DIALOGUE
BAD I tripped hard in the hallway, books and all. What happened? Betty said. I fell. Ugh. I said sheepishly. Betty helped me up. Did anyone see? I asked. I looked around and already knew my answer. People were staring, pointing, and giggling. WHY? Because the dialogue is all in one paragraph and it gets too messy and crowdedit does not flow well. GOOD: I tripped hard in the hallway, books and all. What happened? Betty said. I fell. Ugh. I said sheepishly. Betty helped me up. Did anyone see? I asked. I looked around and already knew my answer. People were staring, pointing, and giggling. WHY? Now the dialogue has its own lines and it flows smoothly!
