Summative Photosynthesis Lab

Problem: Hypothesis: If carbon dioxide ( by doubling the level of baking soda) is increased the rate of photosynthesis will increase by 50% because it is being doubled Hypothesis: If you doubled the amount of co2 in water would the rate of photosynthesis increase 50%. Theory: Photosynthesis is the proses when chlorophyll hit the sunlight and it turns It into sugar and oxygen. the process uses organisms that use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water. Photosynthesis is in plants and it uses the green pigment chlorophyll and generates oxygen as a byproduct. Carbon dioxide is taken in through the stomata and then it goes into the chlorophyll.

Conclusion In this lab we were seeing if the rate of photosynthesis would increase if we changed the level of carbon dioxide in the water with the elodea plant. I hypothesized that if you doubled the amount of carbon dioxide the rate of photosynthesis would increase. The rate of photosynthesis did change when we put 1 gram of baking soda in the water for 3 minutes rate of photosynthesis was 17 in the first trial and with .5 gram of baking soda in the water for 3 minutes the rate of photosynthesis was 58.5. The 7th grade data was for 1 gram. In conclusion my hypothesis was incorrect. Analysis Looking at the grade level data there were inconsistences in period 7. Period 7 had a huge jump from 0.5 grams to 1

gram. They also were one of the only classes with more bubbles with 1 gram than .5 grams. Period 1 had much larger data in both categories than all of the other classes so period 1 made a big difference in the 7th grade data average because they had much larger amount of bubbles. If we took out the two classes the average would be 38.2 and for 1 gram the average would be 31.
