Sarah Fakhouri Sonnet 116 Analysis True love can not be altered with changing circumstances: If so, then

the love is not real. In this sonnet, William Shakespeare describes true love and the feelings that come along with it. O no! It is an ever fixed mark that looks on tempests and is never shaken. The vivid imagery of the lighthouse that faces through the storm without being shaken is there to represent true love. The unshaken lighthouse shows that love always has its ups and downs. Being truly in love is never perfect and just because the two lovers get into a fight, it will just make their love stronger. Shakespeare defines love to alter not with his brief hours and weeks, but bear it out even to the edge of doom." This quote shows that if love doesnt last until the very last day of life, it wasnt true love to begin with. The way Shakespeare writes on love shows the reader how strongly the feelings are for it. What really stands out in the sonnet, is true, love, and worth. These three words best sum up the sonnet because each of them has a great meaning. True means to be real or genuine, love means to have strong affection towards someone else, and worth means of great value. Finally, the poets opinion on love is that it never ends no matter what the circumstance. This affects the readers by teaching them the true value and worth of love and what feelings come with it.
