TIME SEQUENCE

TIME SEQUENCE
Sequencing refers to the putting the events in order from first to last. It allows the listeners and readers to chronologically visualize what is happening in the story.

Generally the time sequence of a short story is straight forward but limited. A short story will occur within a few hours or days. When a short story does a flash back, flash forward or shadowing the action at each time point will be limited. Most likely the action, in an extended time frame, will occur within a characters mind.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TIME SEQUENCE

It helps reader to understand the events in the story based on the chronological orders.

Provides suspense, humor and other fun elements to the story.

It helps reader to relate the events with time and derive assumptions or conclusions from the story.

SETTING

SETTING
Generally, setting refers to the location or period in which the action of the story takes place.

However, setting is something more than just the physical location in which the story takes place because the setting is much more versatile than just a backdrop for the characters to play on. The setting is really meant to enhance a story, and, depending on how well it is detailed, should draw the reader in without even knowing who the characters are.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SETTING

The Setting gives the children interest to read the story and a sense of belonging. It is truly meant to engulf the reader (and the writer as well) into a different world.

The type of vocabulary the characters use can suggest where they live or where the scene occurs. It will give readers clues as to where or when the story takes place.
Setting allows readers to visualize what is going on and connect with the characters better; the setting should be connected to the theme of the story.

SUMMARY
You couldnt write a story that happened nowhere."

Eudora Welty

If the abstract concept of time is a primary consideration to setting, then a childs experience of it must be taken into account. A young childs relationship with time is based on relevant, relatable experiences.
