Dinosaurs were fierce

to the diverse and dangerous world in which they lived. Some were incredibly large, others wore armored plates, and many had voracious appetites. Meet some of the most exceptional dinosaurs, but note that paleontologists make new discoveries every day, which changes what we know about dinosaurs sizes and habitats.

As if one monstrous meat-eating dinosaur wasnt bad enough, the 45-foot-long (14 m), 3-ton (2.7 mt) Giganotosaurus probably hunted in packs, which allowed it to take down an Argentinosaurus.

DANG ERO US

The slow-moving Ankylosaurus didnt run from predatorsmostly because it couldnt move much faster than a person can walk. But also, few predators could bite through its thick armored plates and pointy spikes. For the persistent predator, Ankylosaurus had a club tail to beat off attackers.

DEFE NSE

The Tyrannosaurus rex was not the largest predator of its day, but it was probably the ercest. It was smart, with a brain twice the size of most dinosaurs, and a fast hunter. T. rex also holds the record for biggest teeth, strongest jaws, and could gulp down 100 pounds (45 kg) of meat in one bite.

LARGEST

While only about 22 inches (56 cm) from nose to tail, Microraptors had sharp serrated teeth. These scrappy predators chased down insects and other small critters.

DINO SAU R
Sauropods are a group of giant plant-eating dinosaurs, and the Argentinosaurus is possibly the granddaddy of them all. Some may have measured 140 feet (43 m) long and may have weighed in at more than 100 tons (91 mt). It was a true behemoth, but still not the record-holder for largest animal to ever inhabit Earth. That title belongs to the blue whale.
