Creating Classroom Websites

Pre-Training Guide What will you learn from the training? You will learn how to create, update, and incorporate a classroom website. Specifically, you will learn: Create and modify pages How to display graphics Create links to outside websites Create links to photo slideshows Update and/or import your lesson plans Import worksheets Create Internet activities, and much, much more. While that sounds like a lot, remember that once you are done with one training session, you will feel like you accomplished so much. You will have a website that you can tell your students and their parents to visit that very day. What should you do before the training? You will gain much more from the initial training session if you prepare for it. Brainstorm a list of all the items youd like to have in your website. This list can include items that will you will produce for your site and links from your site to other sites. As you make this list think about your audience and the information that they are looking for. Remember that any documents or images that your already have in the computer can be easily incorporated into the website. Here are a few to help you get started (remember Im using example for educators, but the rest of you can come up with a your own list):
Homework Website links Guide to writing FYI Puzzles My email Book list Requirements Activities Newsletter Student work Syllabus For parents Calendar Contact me Assignments Meeting dates For students Supply list Test review Textbook Club outings Unit objectives Whats new? Grades

What information should you bring for the training?

1. What main pages do you want your classroom website to have? You are creating a basic map of your site! the way that you want visitors to navigate through your information. Sample Flowchart !"#$%&"'
$#())'*+,%' #"))%+' -%&"!%./' #*+/)'

$#()).%%&' .0#")' $(#"+1(.2' )$-"10#"'

)$*"+$"'

."(1*+3'

Use the attached flowchart to help you decide what the main sections will be called and what information will be placed on each page. 2. What are websites that are relevant to you and your class? Write down their name, a description, and their website address on the attached form. 3. Photos of class activities or of students work! 6. Find images that are related to you and your class. 7. Bring a copy of your lesson plans which you typed in a word processor. You can send it to your e-mail and just download during the training. Decide how you want to incorporate your lesson plans into your site. Yes _____ No ______ Do you want to type your lesson plans in Word and link to them? __________________________ Do you want to just type basics of what you do each week and then retype over them each week? Do you want to save all of your lesson plans for use during a future year?

8. Bring a copy of your teaching goals and objectives, class policies, lab safety guides, calculator agreements, honor codes, grading scales, or anything important.
