Year Level: 5 Time: 11:30 12:20 Date: 7th March 2014 Learning Area: English Strand/Topic from the Australian Curriculum Language Language for interaction (ACELA1501) Students Prior Knowledge: Understanding the procedure of mind mapping Understand basic functions of an iPad General knowledge of the purpose of radio broadcasting (previous lesson) Understand that social interactions influence the way people engage with ideas and respond to others for example when exploring and clarifying the ideas of others, summarising their own views and reporting them to a larger group (ACELA1488)

Teachers Prior Preparation/Organisation: Make sure ICT is functional (link between iPad and projector) iPads given to students are working Make sure there is enough iPads for the class Make sure iPads are equipped with the App Inspiration Make sure the video is running effectively

Provision for students at educational risk: Student with vision impairment requires seating close to projector and magnification equipment for viewing task Students with non-English speaking background are sat next to students with an English speaking background

Motivation and Introduction: 1. Students will engage in the video clip to gain understanding of radio broadcasting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivNDql5DGCY 2. Re-view the previous lesson about the topic of radio and the task of creating a radio broadcast by engaging students in a discussion about what they learnt from the previous lesson From the previous lesson, what is the purpose of a radio broadcast?

Lesson Steps (Lesson content, structure, strategies & Key Questions): 1. Students will go in the same groups of three as per previous lesson (2x scribes, 1x speaker) 2. Hand out iPads to groups of students and make sure they are all working 3. Open Inspiration Maps App on the projector and show students how to do the same on their iPads iPads

4. Start the discussion of If we were to have a radio show for our class/school, what topics would we include? 5. Get answers from students and use the class mind map to write them whilst showing students the steps for using Inspiration Maps 6. Ask students to follow on their own iPads 7. In their assigned groups, ask the students to create and produce their own mind map

Lesson Closure (Review lesson objectives with students) 1. Demonstrate how to save their mind maps and get students to follow 2. Call students back to their seats with their iPads 3. Ask the speaker of each group to tell the class one idea they put on their mind map to use as a radio broadcast, and why?
