This letter is to express the support of the International Oceans Institute Waves of Change
Campaign for the USF led proposal to host the 2012 Planet Under Pressure: New Knowledge,
New Solutions conference.

The Waves of Change Campaign was authorized by the International Ocean Institute with pilot
projects beginning in Florida, USA. We are particularly concerned with the Planetary Boundary
issues that the IGBP have identified such as climate change, ocean acidification, change in land
use as it impacts coastal zones and other ecosystems.

Through the international network of the IOI’s 26 operational centers around the world, we will
reach out to scientists who are particularly involved with the “Oceans Under Pressure”
component of the IGBP program.

We further look forward to working with USF College of Marine Science and the Walt Disney
World Resort Environment programs to further develop the collaboration and synergy that we
have begun to make the IGBP conference an enjoyable, creative, and transformative experience.
Specifically, we are looking forward to help in bringing the new science and new knowledge to
the general public in creative ways that they can readily understand.
