Kiersten Apperson Robisch College Writing 1 3 March 2014 Guns Kill People Guns are bad for our country and should be made illegal to own in the United States. They are dangerous to mankind and should not be a part of our society. Guns cause people to commit suicide, they make people become terrorists, and they give humans power that is beyond our control. However, above all else, guns kill people. These are obvious reasons for making it illegal to own any kind of firearms. Guns are the number one reason for murders and suicides. The statistics of owning a gun and suicide rates have a positive correlation. People who own a gun are more likely to commit suicide than those who do not own a gun. If we make guns illegal, our suicide rates will go down! Dr. Hiymares research claims that there are over 100,000 suicide attempts per year in America. Of those attempts, approximately 75% are caused by a firearm. Taking away guns would save about 75,000 Americans a year! There are about 50,000 murders a year from guns. Without guns, people do not have the fear of walking out of our homes and being shot, or going to a bank and being robbed. Without guns we will have a lot less deaths overall, and Americans would live happier and not have to worry about the sudden loss of their loved ones. (Hiymare) Guns have also manipulated people into doing bad things not only to ourselves, but other innocent people too. Terrorism, for example, typically corresponds with a firearm. Mr. Walsher,

of Minnesota, claims to have attacked the local elementary school staff and students because of the guns in his home. The guns were sitting in the cabinet staring at me and telling me to take them to the school! Over 15 children were shot and killed, 5 teachers and other staff members, and the entire country was effected by this tragic event. Innocent people were influenced in the long run by these terrible instruments. If we do not act soon, how long before more guns manipulate another innocent person into harming others again? (Harmony) Guns are just an excuse for us to have war and cause drama. Guns seem to give us a type of power that will take over and control us unconsciously. Dr. Airloyer proved in a serious of tests that guns in fact do provide us with a weird frenzy in our body. He studied the brain activity while using and interacting with a gun. The guns give us a mental change that make us believe we are more powerful than what we really are. We eventually feel indestructible and we start wars that kill millions of soldiers. We should especially get rid of Army firearms. Most of our wars are started because of this power we feel, when in reality, the majority of the wars we have been involved in could have easily been settled by a trust agreement. The bombing of twin towers for example, if we would have just talked to Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden and worked out a peace treaty, we would not have had to start a pointless war. Taking away firearms in the army would reduce the number of wars and conflicts that the United States becomes involved in. (Airloyer) Guns do not only convince us to cause harm in the world, but they cause harm in the world themselves. Mark Hanman wrote about his experience with guns. Throughout the book he talked about how he grew up with many firearms in his house and how they effected his life in the end. He talks about the guns always seeming to move on their own and how he would find them in places that no one had left them. One day, he watched one slide across the table and sit

up on its own. Hanman was terrified by this and tried to tell his parents, who of course did not believe him. Hanman was sent to a therapist for the majority of his childhood until he was convinced that the situation did not actually occur. When Hanman was 25 he decided to buy his own gun for hunting and protection. Three days later, his sixteen year old son was shot and killed by the exact same gun. He and his wife and daughter witnessed the whole thing and when the police arrived they believed the family had mental illnesses, after being sent to psychologist there story was proved to be true and accurate. (Hanmon) The idea of having guns in our country now terrifies me. I know that the best thing for our society is to have these harmful weapons removed from the world. We can lock them up in a box and sink them to the bottom of the oceans. Making it illegal to own guns in the United States is crucial, I mean we have guns killing people, what more do you need?
