Name: Amy Cortez Title of Lesson: Number Theory-Divisibility

Grade Level: 1st grade

Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills/Standards: Students will initiate problems solving skills needed for the efficiency used at every grade level and in daily life. Students will formulate a plan and strategy in order to estimate or determine a solution, justifying the solution, using real objects or manipulatives to solve problems. Students will use mental math along with manipulatives, pictoral objects, twodimensional shapes, and three-dimensional solids in order to instantly recogni e and organi e the !uantity of structured arrangements. http"##ritter.tea.state.t$.us#rules#tac#chapter%%%#inde$.html !"e#tive/$%r&ose: Students will learn computational thinking, while engaging in content. Students should learn what a &group' is and the meaning of &dividing' by using the words and visual signing of breaking apart by using your hands. 'ntrod%#e Lesson: Students are familiar with the lesson. Students have already been formally introduced to divisibility throughout their time in class. This should be nothing too new to students. This should provide you, as the sub, some leverage to many e$amples. Should you have any problems refer to the video listed in the lesson section. Exam&le: This video provides two e$amples. This video can be played to the students. ($amples should use numbers no higher than )*. ($. Sub" Show me with your cheerios. .ou /the sub0 will then walk around checking each student1s groupings. 2 will leave a bag of cheerios, so that students can get involved with grouping and separation. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLCLmsO9C_k Lesson: This video is an e$ample of how this lesson will be taught. This lesson can be taught at computer shown to students at computer stations, but will move to their desks after watching video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vZj4 ! 9w" 3fter watching the video, write &division' on the board. 4sing your hands show students what you mean by division. 5ull both of your hands away from each other signifying the breaking apart action. +ave students show you with their hands also several times. Draw three separate e$amples of circles or any shape you choose, so that students can get a visual of division. 3fter this follow the steps of the cheerios e$ample listed above. This lesson can be repeated as many times as needed, using different numbers of course. Thank you for substituting for my class. 2 am sure they will enjoy you. 6s. 7orte
