Power Quality Improvement Using D-statcom and DVR S.V Ravi Kumar and S.

Siva Nagaraju Abstract: A Power quality problem is an occurrence manifested as a nonstandard voltage current or frequency t!at results in a failure or a mis"operation of end user equipments. #tility distribution networ$s sensitive industrial loads and critical commercial operations suffer from various types of outages and service interruptions w!ic! can cost significant financial losses. %it! t!e restructuring of power systems and wit! s!ifting trend towards distributed and dispersed generation t!e issue of power quality is going to ta$e newer dimensions. &n developing countries li$e &ndia w!ere t!e variation of power frequency and many suc! ot!er determinants of power quality are t!emselves a serious question it is very vital to ta$e positive steps in t!is direction. '!e present researc! is to identify t!e prominent concerns in t!is area and !ence t!e measures t!at can en!ance t!e quality of t!e power are recommended. '!is researc! describes t!e tec!niques of correcting t!e supply voltage sag swell and interruption in a distributed system. At present a wide range of very fle(ible controllers w!ic! capitali)e on newly available power electronics components are emerging for custom power applications. Among t!ese t!e distribution static compensator *+"S'A',-./ and t!e dynamic voltage restorer *+VR/ are most effective devices bot! of t!em based on t!e VS, principle. A +VR injects a voltage in series wit! t!e system voltage and a +"S'A',-. injects a current into t!e system to correct t!e voltage sag swell and interruption. ,ompre!ensive results are presented to assess t!e performance of eac! device as a potential custom power solution.
