Evaluation: Scientific Process Solar Cooker

Students will create their own pizza box solar cooker Students will correctly show evidence of understanding of the scientific process in their science notebooks in reference to the solar cooker experiment

Materials: 1. Plain White Pizza boxes 2. Aluminum Foil 3. Reynolds Wrap 4. Black Construction Paper 5. Markers, Crayons, Colored Pencils 6. Scientific Method Handout 7. Smore Making Materials 8. Staples 9. Glue 10. Tape

Procedures: 1. Tell students we will be scientists today 2. We will be creating and testing our own solar cookers 3. Explain that the teachers will be coming around to help with the tin foil and Reynolds wrap but while we are doing that students should be decorating

and gluing black paper into the bottom of their solar cooker. (Have all this written on the board for them) 4. Show students my model and then pass out the construction paper and solar cookers (Have them write their name on the Solar Cooker!!) 5. Teacher go around with Reynolds wrap and aluminum foil while students are decorating and gluing 6. Make sure to get every ones solar cookers fixed and ready to go before science period 7. Allow a few more minutes to finish solar cookers if needed at beginning of science 8. In science period pass out the scientific method handout. As a class we will come up with the question we want answered with the solar cookers (although some students aka scope kids will want to make their own. 9. Over the doc cam we will also fill out the equipment section 10. Allow students to predict what they think will happen (Hypothesis) 11. We will place the solar cookers outside in a safe area (with Smore supplies in place. We will also use a control for experimental design purposes 12. We will come back inside for specials 13. After specials I will regroup the students and we will go back outside to see how our solar cookers worked (and the control) 14. We will come back inside and fill out the methods and result sections of the scientific process section. (Depending on how they are grasping it we may talk a little about testing and re-testing) 15. Allow students to take their solar cookers home and for extra credit they may test their solar cooker again 16. Start math reviews if there is time (Fractions)
