If the World Were A Village: A Book About the Worlds People If the World Were a Village is a great book

that illustrates statistics in a way that will be easier for young students to visualize and process. Smith (2011) has worked from the premise If the world was 100 people This is a great way to give a quick glance of the world to young students in a way that they can connect to without being overwhelmed. There is a lot of really telling and insightful information included in the book to help students paint a picture of the world. This would be a great book to share with a grade three class, since the overarching theme in grade three social studies as per Alberta Education is Connecting With the World. (Alberta Education, pp. 35). This book will help students to realize how diverse the world is and that their experience is only one of many taking place across the globe. This is also a great interdisciplinary resource, since it challenges students to use numeracy skills as well.
