Course explores the epistemological, methodological, and pedagogical uses of Critical Race Theory (CRT) for interrogating race-based

disparities in social institutions, specifically schools and community agencies. The overarching goal of the course will be to unpack the utility of CRT for examining: 1) factors that maintain racial disparities in education and social service; 2) how race mediates multiple forms of oppression; 3) why racial inequalities persist despite contemporary efforts to improve race relations; and 4) sustainable responses to minimize the racial and oppressive subordination of people from historically marginalized culture groups.
