Summary

This is not only a project, but its a great opportunity to plan out the rest of our lives. We have completed 4 surveys off a local website ( www.cfnc.org ) to help us in our decisions about planning future careers. ve recently had the chance to spea! with "ames # $asion, a local district court judge who gave me advice on pic!ing a career. #e said there are three things you should thin! about when deciding on what you will do for a living. %o you enjoy it, can you support yourself financially through it, and does it help others. This is what will base my future job on. n the &areer &luster 'urvey was as!ed a series of (uestions that too! me about )* minutes to complete. t as!ed about personal (ualities, school subjects, and activities that enjoy. +fter completed it, my results were that would be good at anything dealing with ,aw -nforcement and #uman 'ervices. do enjoy watching T. shows li!e /,aw 0 1rder2 or /3& '2 but could never see myself actually doing those jobs. +s for #uman 'ervices, the jobs that were strongly recommended for me were things li!e a &hild &are4+id wor!er or a Teacher. cant really see myself doing any of those jobs. 5y mom is an +ssistant 6rincipal who has previously taught in the classroom and !now from observing her that while teaching may be rewarding, the pay, stress, and even wor!ing conditions are not very good. Therefore, dont thin! that is for me. +fter that was the 7asic '!ills 'urvey. t too! me about 8* minutes to complete. Three (uestions were as!ed for seven possible levels on one specific topic. +fter ta!ing it received one si9 in :eading &omprehension and four fives in things li!e 5athematics, ,earning 'trategies, +ctive ,earning, and Writing. 1verall was pleased until none of the career options matched up to anything was interested in. They listed scientific, mathematical, and engineering type jobs which is not what see myself doing. thought since scored highest in a reading field it would list things that have more interest in. 3e9t was the nterest 6rofile 'urvey. t too! about 8; minutes. n this survey it as!ed me about different tas!s would li!e to do. scored highest in the +rtistic and 'ocial categories. 1ut of all of the many jobs listed under those categories, finally found one that grabbed my attention. + 3ewscaster under the +rts, +udio<.ideo, Technology, and &ommunication cluster in the "ournalism and 7roadcasting pathway. To do this job you have to report as an anchor on T., presenting an in<depth story on local, national, or global news. They gather, analy=e, and interpret information to fit the allotted time. They also write reports and commentaries. The average e9perienced news caster gets paid about >?8,*** per year. The only problem with this occupation is that there are a very small number of job openings in 3orth &arolina. 1ther jobs listed that stood out to me were 6ublic :elations 'pecialist and a 'ociologist. n the fourth and final survey, my values on my wor! and wor! place were

tested. This too! about 8* minutes. +chievement, :ecognition, ndependence, good :elationships, and good wor!ing conditions are all (ualities loo! for in a job. +ll of the matching careers listed were based on those (ualities. +n 1rthodontist and a 6ediatrician were the only recommend jobs had interest in. The downsides to these jobs is that it re(uires lots of e9tra years of school and math which have absolutely no desire to do. 1verall, wasnt disappointed with my results. @rowing up to be a 3ewscaster or 7roadcaster seems very possible. really enjoy ,anguage +rts, :eading, and spea!ing. +lso, would ma!e a good salary and can inform the public when itAs needed the most. All always go bac! to the advice 5r. $asion gave me. n the end, those three things are what people need to live a satisfied life.
