508 Professional Development Reflection

Writing my professional development plan during our first semester of the program was difficult for me. It took me some time to think about the goals I had for myself because of the overwhelming semester we had. I also had not thought about the goals I had for myself at that point in time. After starting my goals, I felt that it became easier for me to think of the areas I wanted for myself in the future. I also enjoyed writing about the different types of goals such as personal, career, educational, and recreational goals. I think that having the different areas helped my think about my life as a whole, instead of just one aspect. I think that setting these goals for myself helped me look forward to the things that I needed to do and wanted to do. It has also helped me organize myself and push myself to achieve these goals. However, there were a few goals that were not realistic and would not be happening within the next year. For example, my personal goal for the next year was becoming engaged within the next year. I thought I could achieve this goal by working hard and showing my significant other my passions for school, occupational therapy, and working hard. Actions that I needed to take included having good communication, showing that I was ready to take the next step, and that I was ready for a family. Something that prevented me from this goal was having a long distance relationship. The key to this was keeping good communication and a strong relationship. Unfortunately, this was something that was not feasible any longer.
