Portrait of Confucius Legalism encourages farmers and soldiers while stemming merchants, aristocrats, scholars, and other classes that were seen as useless; filial piety is apparent; extremely patriarchal society; Written form of Chinese is developed under Qin; iron age technology; roads are developed; civil service exams are implemented in order to recruit government officials; Construction on the Great Wall of China begins under Qin; landscape painting is a popular art form, which was influenced by Daoism and often depicted scenes including mountains and water elements;
