Art Standards

#1 Understands and applies media, techniques, and processes related to the visual arts.

Notan/Digital Notan
The students used their materials and iPads in a responsible and correct way. The Students used step-by-step instructions to learn how to make a Notan design. They pre planned their Notan before starting their final project.

#2. Knows how to use the structures (eg., sensory qualities, organizational principles, expressive features) and functions of art.

#3 Knows a range of subject matter, symbols, and potential ideas in the visual arts.

Students chose meaningful subject matter to make their Notan designs relate to them.

#4 Understands the visual arts in relation to history and cultures.

Students discussed where Notan started in Japanese art.

#5 Reflect upon and assess the characteristics and merits of their work and the work of others. #6 Make connections between visual arts and other disciplines.

Students participated in a class critique.

Students looked at positive/negative space and studied art from another culture.
