ARTICLE SUMMARY

Abstract This is a review of the article The role of mobile technology in the classroom. This article is a roundtable debate which asks several panel members, (who happen to be teachers) if they think that mobile technology should be used inside the classroom. Their responses are recorded and my opinion is included throughout the story.

ARTICLE SUMMARY

In the article The Role of Mobile Technology in the Classroom the article discusses the importance of technology such as cell phones and Ipads being used inside the classroom and being a beneficial part in learning for the children. The article describes a round table debate that was held with Anthony Coxon who began by asking a panel numerous different questions such as should schools ban the use of mobile phones and other technology in the classroom and even the entire school. The second question asked was if we think there is a correlation between bad behavior and mobile technology. The panel does reply to the first question appropriately by stating that there are ways that mobile technology can be misused by students but if the students use the technology in the way that it was meant to be used then the advantages of the technology are far greater than the disadvantages. One of the teachers states that mobile technology is used outside of the classroom and therefore should form part of our everyday teaching. The second question was also answered honestly, one teacher replies with bad behavior is generally considered to be the result of a lack of engagement but mobile technology does seem to get them engaged in the lesson. As to analyzing the article the reader sees that it is important to implicate a system that can be used inside schools. However if many people want to use their own technology inside the classroom it will be hard to do because schools do not have wi-fi systems in place that can handle the amount of users that a school can produce. If the technology is not provided to the students then the whole technology field is useless because now they have these devices but no way to access the information, therefore the technology that has been purchased to learn is therefore useless. We see in todays age that technology is very expensive but that is the price to pay for a revelation in education.

ARTICLE SUMMARY

In conclusion, I believe that the panel answers all the questions accurately. There was not a teacher on the panel that disagreed and stated that technology should not be used inside of the classroom. Technology is now a big part of the students world and teacher must try to incorporate technology into the classroom because the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. However if many students are using mobile technology in the classroom there must be a way for the students to connect to the internet. A powerful wi-fi system must be in place in order for mobile technology to be used. At Molloy College we are given a wi-fi system but it is often hard to connect or is very slow to use and can become very frustrating to use.
