It was a great moment to listen to Prof. Dr.

Rajmohan Gandhi in December 2013.

I was an ardent fan of Dr Rajmohan since I read

his Understanding the Muslim Mind in 1997-98 .

The book was a collection of brilliantly incisive

and subtle political sketches of key Muslim
political leaders of Indo Pak from 1858 to 1951.
I was very inspired to learn from Dr Rajmohan
that he had quoted in his Punjab book under
discussion today , from my book Sepoy
Rebellion of 1857-59 Reinterpreted printed in
1998 and also serialized in Defence Journal
from July 1999 to April 2002.

The topic of Punjab is sensitive in India and
Pakistan because of 1947 massacres which
killed around 500,000 or more people.
By and large speakers who discussed the book
were non committal and tactful .

Pakistani security agencies who failed in actual

intelligence operational work in all wars
scanned the seminar venue.
Indian speakers who were very cordial in
discussion with all of us took our e mail
contacts but never contacted us !

Now about Punjab history and its partition in

1947 ?

How to sum it up !
Punjabi Hindus who lost the most economically
and socially bear responsibility the most for it .
Simply because they regarded Punjabi Muslims ,
Punjabs 54 % majority as socially inferior and in
1920s declared that if ever Muslims in Punjab
were allowed actual 54 % electoral share in
elections Punjab should be divided ! And they
lost the most !

Somehow except Prof Rajmohan everyone

missed the point that it was British
manipulation that won !

And it is ironic that today India and Pakistan

despite all claims of peace are actually heading
towards a major war !
Somehow no one in the whole gathering was
admitting that British policy had the last laugh
in 1947 by keeping India and Pakistan unstable
by mutual fear for all times to come !

Partition of India was a victory for opportunists

, specially in Pakistan.

First it was the Hindu who was bad and

immediately after partition West Pakistanis
started conspiring against Bengali Muslims as
they were regarded as racially inferior , just like
Punjabi Hindus regarded Muslims in 1920s.So
Bengali majority of 55 % had to be undermined
and it was reduced in 1956 to 50 % . Reduced
with craftiness of a pre partition hindu as
Muslims claimed before 1947 and wit coercive
force of a West Pakistani army ! And West
Pakistanis were in majority in army not because
they were more martial but simply because they
were most shameless collaborators of British !

And now it is turn of Balochis !

All this makes one conclude that we are a really
pathetic lot !

Personally as a family I cannot say if we derived

any social or financial benefit from partition of
India !

May be Nawaz Sharif did ! Or may be many

Punjabis or Indian refugees from Bombay etc
who occupied hindu properties .
If Hindus despised Muslims in Punjab before
1947 now may be muslim iron smiths and
cobblers who became rich despise financially
less affluent Muslims !

How man acts ? Yellow historians will say that

Sikhs killed Muslims and then Muslims killed
Sikhs in retaliation ? Things were far more
complex ?

The Punjabi Sikhs and Hindus were the richest

and strongest families of pre partition Punjab .
Thus the intense comunal hatred between
Muslims and non Muslims ! Today the rich
Muslims of Pakistan are what Sikhs and Hindus
were in 1947 ! The rich exploit the poor so the
hatred now in Pakistan is more class hatred
than religious hatred !

The Muslim elite has as shamelessly exploited

the poor Muslims as the Sikhs and Hindus !
Perhaps even worse !

Punjabis in Pakistan regard Baloch as inferior !

Sunnis rear Shia as inferior !

May be LUMS Dr Naqvi regarded me or anyone

less socially elevated as inferior , just like a
non Muslim professor in Punjab regarded a
Muslim before 1947 !
Only faces changed . Social differences
remained the same and Imperialism in any case
won !

The best Jinnah and his successors could think

was to beg for US largesse to save Pakistan
from India !

And US largesse came in 1954 !

Just like a Knight in shining armor saved

Muslims of Deli ,Punjab and Frontier Pashtuns
from rape by hindu Marathas in 1803 and 1849 !
In 1849 punjabi and pashtun mullas in sermons
praised English company as muslims saviors !
And now Chinese largesse.

If Jinnah feared a Hindu army in united India to

chastise Muslims same happened in Bengal in
1971 and in Baluchistan !

And today Saudi Arabia wants Pakistani sunni

muslim mercenaries to kill shias in Iraq and
Syria ! It appears that a movement has started
and Pakistans so called deal with Pakistani
Taliban is linked to sending these neurotic
characters to Falluja and Syria !

Its the role that you occupy and not religion

that decides the issue !

Economics decides all as Marx stated !

The greatest mystery is that it was the Punjabi
Hindus who demanded partition of Punjab in
case Muslims were allotted representation in
the Punjab legislature as per population in
1920s !

What fools !

That is what finally led to partition !

Without Punjab being with the Muslim League

there would have been no partition of India !
The greatest losers of partition were the
Punjabi Hindus and Sikhs both monetarily and
politically and the greatest beneficiaries were
the Punjabi Muslims both monetarily and
politically ?

But then history takes strange paths !

Today the Baloch are facing a war of genocide

by Muslims of Pakistan !

Ahmadis are being killed for being Ahmadis !

Punjabis Sindhis and Pashtuns are unsafe in
Karachi !
A Punjabi cannot enter Balochistan without
threat to his life !

A Shia is more unsafe in Pakistan than in India !

While gunship helicopters were used in Paktika
in Afghanistan by Soviets today Pakistani
gunship helicopters are spraying fire in
Waziristan ?

All these needs to be reconciled ?

Have things or we changed ?
Not all gained ? My great grandfather had five
squares or so in 1900 in Lyallpur ? Today it is
zero acres !

A class of carpet baggers gained all !

Characters like the Muslim Memons of Bombay
or the Muslim Chamars involved in cleaning
hides now known as Chiniotis and Sehgals ! So
many , ironsmits ,barbers ,peons !!!

And now these regard poorer Muslims as low

castes !

Much of this social enineerin was done by

pakistans military , ayub,zia ,musarraf !

And most stupid creation of paki military were

the clown mad dog islamist extremists which
may prove Pakistans most serious destabilizing
factor ! All created for US Dollars !
Adamji was no philanthropist when he gave a
blank cheque to the Muslim League ! The
Muslim feudals heavily in debt to the Hindu
Banias and only saved thanks to Alienation of
Land Act of Samuel Septimus Thorburn !
Only 5 % voted in partition !
Nationalism is deception ! Politics is personal
interest !

Or was it all about gaining political and

material advantages based on ethnicity ?

The question is that Asif Zardari or Pakistans

generals or Pakistans ten thousand families are
not Hindus or Sikhs but in their greed they are
worse than Hindus and Sikhs !

The game was about power and not religion

then and the same today !

Egos matter ! Ethnicity matters ! Class matters !

Religion is only a tool used by the first three !
