Group 1 Activity: The Math Teachers

Scenario: Ms. Ruiz is absent today, and Ms. Ezidore has asked that each one of you work with a student to teach them how to multiply using one of the multiplication strategies. How would you explain the process? What steps would you all give your classmates to ensure they understand how to multiply? Create a mini-lesson to model the process. You may create a power point presentation with voice, a Prezi, or you may just simply teach the process using an ActivInspire Flipchart. Be creative. Use the rubric to evaluate your lesson.
Your lesson should include the following components: 1. Anticipatory Set: Provide an explanation of what multiplication is. 2. Model: A demonstration of the methods that may be used to solve multiplication problems. a. Your are required to choose only one method: the old way or the box method) b. During this stage, your group should demonstrate each step by completing two examples. 3. Guided Practice/Independent Practice: Provide one problem for the class to complete. 4. Closing: Your group may put a video or review the stages.

Group 2 Activity: The Social Studies Teachers

Scenario: Your teacher would like you to learn more information about the life of an individual of your choice. Using RAZ-Kids or online resources create a timeline outlining the important events of the individuals life.
REMEMBER: A timeline shows important events that happened in order starting with the earliest date until now. Make sure each date has the important event that occurred in that persons life at the time right below it. Follow the directions below to complete your project. 1. WITH YOUR GROUP, decide what person you want to make a timeline on. a. Thomas Edison b. Barack Obama c. John Hanson

d. Martin Luther King 2. Each of you need to research important aspects of the person including: when he was born things he did as a child (did he move, where did he live, when did he attend school, where he attended school, when he graduated, significant dates that make him important) Presentation Options: Timetoast or Poster Timetoast Instructions: 1. Log into www.timetoast.com a. Username mmills6@its.nicholls.edu b. Password teach 31 2. Once you log in complete the following steps: a. Click add a new timeline. b. Enter the title of your Timeline. For example if you select Barack Obama, type his name. You may also upload a picture from the Internet by saving it to the desktop from Google. c. Click Go. d. Begin adding events. Be sure to label the event and put the correct date. You may add pictures, but I wouldnt take too much time doing this step. Poster Timeline Instructions: 1. Have someone draw a neat, straight line in the MIDDLE of the poster going all the way across. 2. START with the EARLIEST DATE first. Write the date with a dark print (using a marker) Write the event right below the date. 3. You should continue with the dates of important events in that persons life.

GROUP MEMBER CAN FIND TWO FACTS.

ALL TOGETHER 10 DATES SHOULD BE ON YOUR TIMELINE OF THAT PERSON INCLUDING 10 IMPORTANT EVENTS THAT GO WITH EACH DATE. PLEASE BE SURE THE DATES ARE IN ORDER!!! USE THE RUBRIC TO CHECK YOUR FINAL TIMELINE.

Group 3 Activity: The Science Teachers __________________________________________________________________ Scenario: Like humans, frogs undergo life changes. They begin as eggs, but become frogs. This does not happen overnight. There are stages in the frog's life cycle. Your task is to use information from literature and the Internet to: o Identify each stage by reading the information provided to you all by your teacher. o Complete the graphic organizer provided by your teacher placing the events in order.

o Create a visual representation of the life cycle in sequence order and provide a brief explanation of what happens during each stage. Your group will be provided with: o two nonfiction selections on the life cycle of a frog. o graphic organizer to sequence the events Product Choices:

Create a Life Cycle of a Frog Power Point Presentation.

Draw the life cycle on a poster.

Create a mobile.
