Learning in Deed Reading & Math Academy

Program dates: July 8-Aug 1, 2013 16 total days Monday-Thursday Approximately 8:00-12:00 Learning in Deed (K-6) held only at Franklin Math Academy (4-6) held at Rosa Parks Reading Academy (K-5) held at Rosa Parks, Hoover, Kennedy, Washington, and Franklin with 6th Grade attending there.

Engages students in community-based service projects while strengthening their basic academic needs

It is the blending of both service and learning goals in such a way that both occur and are enriched by each other It always includes a strong reflective component where students utilize higher order thinking skills

2013 Service Projects


Elderly: Writing letters, making paper flowers, and place mats for assisted living centers. B.E.N.C.H.S.: Car wash raised $125 for supplies. E.C.H.O Food Shelf: Collected 82 lbs. of food. Ronald McDonald House: Collected pop tabs and wrote letters to families. Blue Earth Public Library: Donated animal quote bookmarks.

Keep same time frame 16 Days in July 4 Days a week. Register majority of students at Spring Conference Continue with the same five sites Open up Math Academy to Third Graders Keep the busing model the same no hub Continue with flex grouping but open it up to grouping based on ability for Reading Academy to a greater extend.
