Rhetorical Analysis Essay The Book Thief And Inglourious Basterds

Over the next three weeks, you are going to write a rhetorical analysis essay in which you compare and contrast the rhetoric put forth in Marcus Zusaks novel, The Book Thief, with the rhetoric put forth in Quentin Tarantinos film, Inglourious Basterds. Both of these texts are set in World War II Nazi Germany, but take very different approaches to their treatment of ideas such as war, persecution, and revenge. You will choose one of the above ideas, and your essay must answer the question: How do these two texts differ in the rhetoric they put forth concerning your chosen idea? In your essay, you will analyze the rhetoric put forth in at least three scenes from each of these texts. The scenes you analyze should be chosen and addressed chronologically. For each scene addressed, you will devote at least a paragraph of your essay to an in depth analysis of that scene. This will include, first, identifying rhetorical devices used and analyzing how they make a particular rhetorical appeal. Second, you must analyze how that rhetorical appeal contributes to the development of the texts theme. Common Core State Standards
