Brianna Nguyen Step 1 - Project There are different ways fossils are made.

The first way a fossil could be made is when the dead body is frozen. The body and organs are preserved in ice and that becomes a fossil. Animals that usually leave fossils this way belong in the ice age period. Second example is when an animal dies and the flesh is eaten. The animals bones sink into the dirt because layers would pile on top of the corpse. Acidic underground water would come in and exchange minerals with the bones. The bones turn into stone. Those are called petrified fossils. They are stronger than usual bones. Last example is using an animals foot steps in the mud. When the animal is gone, sentiments get piled on top of the steps and there would be layers and layers on top. The ground would continue to sink. When the top of the layers erode the footsteps of the animal is shown. Animals that usually leave fossils in this manner are big mammoths.
