Modern day Russia often refers to itself as a constitutional republic, or semipresidential system but when it comes to opposing countries

describing its political system you many find yourself saying Russia is ruled by an oppressive tyrant or dictator. President Vladmir Putin has started ruling over this powerful country after the fall of communist USSR in 1991 and had been elected in 2012. He served a term as president from 2000-2008 and also was autonomously the prime minister from 1999-2000 and again in 2008-2012. If Putin isnt the epitome of demanding and overruling of his country, I do not know who is. Since his reelection Putin has seized power as the figure of Russia and used it to fight against countries such as Ukraine but where does this need for power start? Before the collapse of Communist Russian, many dictators, sometimes even Tzars fought to gain power, money and land. The Romanov dynasty has left Russia desperate to be on top even years after their rulings. For example, Peter the great focused his ruling period on industrializing and revolutionizing Russia by starting its Navy and working to improve its army immensely. He fought to gain land in order to access ports and trading as well as land rich in recourses. Catherine of Germany successfully gained the black sea for Russia which was one of the biggest accomplishments of the time period. After the Tzarist period in Russia 1917 marked the start of communism and the cold war. Civil War broke out in Russia with Lenin leading the Bolshevik, or communist party and seceded by Stalin who killed the rest of the communist panel to obtain full control. Like any country Russia has faced extremes, including wars, weather, secret government operations and police as well as its governments negligence of truth, leaving society corrupt and crumbling. A perfect example of the corruption the society faces includes the police force used from 1917-1991. Throughout Russias soviet rein eight secret police forces were created including the KGB. They were used to enforce strict laws and gain intelligence from other countries as well as inside Russia its self. A perfect example is the travesty we witness before us in Crimea. Putin demands troops be sent to a part of Ukraine with a dense Russian population by trying to claim it for his homeland but by invading Ukraine, Putin is coming face to face with impartial warfare. The reasons behind Putins actions are unclear but are mostly due to the fact that Russia has no stern government to prevent the actions he makes. According to the Russian constitution of 1978, the

president of Russia is head of the executive branch and Council of Ministers. The new constitution of 1993 states the Russian president it legally not part of the Russian government, a perfect loophole for Vladamir Putin. For years Putin has been convincing the people of Russia that is surrounded by enemy countries and only Putin can save it. He is getting into the mindsets of his society by dictating laws, telling the people of Russia what they can and cant do and even lying to their faces whether it be in some form of publicity. In a recent interview, Vladmir denied having sent Russian troops into Crimea. After all of the lies he has filled his country up with, the people who held the interview were outraged with his lies and composed a top 10 list of Vladmir Putins most famous lies. People were condemning Putin for being crazy but after further inspection of what he was saying, some think he is lying to try and intimidate the rest of the world. Instead of worrying about the people in Russia, Putin spends his time trying to annex new territories, picking a minority to be a scapegoat, and distrusting the rest of the world completely. He shows many similarities to Hitler and is often compared to him because of his unfair and corrupt ways. Both Hitler and Putin are responsible for many deaths of their own people and minorities, as well as invading other countries for their own benefit. Putin is even accused of embezzling billions of dollars that was supposed to be for the Sochi Olympics. Sochi Olympics topped the charts for most money used to create the Olympic area in Sochi. It is an estimated 20% more costly than the Beijing Olympics starting at around 40 Billion dollars in funding. Many people are calling into question the integrity of Russias government and if they truly spent all 40 Billion dollars on the Sochi Olympic village. While Putin has served his term in Russia, corruption and bribery rates have increased significantly. 15% of people admitted to paying a bribe over the last year, accounting for 20% of Russias GDP. This year bribes totaled over 400 Billion dollars and counting. Russia has made efforts to stop the ongoing bribery inside the country. Doing so is now is now a punishable crime and can get someone fined from anywhere around 200 to 500 dollars. In 2006 a survey was held where 63% admitted to having a negative view on giving bribes while 51% said they have a negative view on receiving them. Russia is currently working on fixing there corrupt system, though we will never know where the Sochi money actually went or if the bribery issued has decreased at all. Russia has faced some

serious hardships under the presidency of Putin and society is crumbling as a result. I believe that in order to work towards a better Russia, their current political system needs to be changed drastically and the first step of improvement is impeaching Vladmir Putin. By making changes to the government Russia would improve their quality of life as a whole and become less drug dependent. The first step is working to improve Russia today to have a promising tomorrow and to irradiate corruption, bribery and drugs within the country. After this is accomplished Russia will be a power force in the world and the only thing holding it back is itself.
