DYNAMIC KILL MODELING This is a process used to kill a blowout well by pumping fluid into a wellbore at high rates to generate enough friction to suppress the flow. Simulations are run with transient twophase flow models to design these kills. Scenarios that are analyzed can involve pumping through the drill string or through a relief well. Results provided include pump rates, pressure and quantities of fluids required. The OLGA Advanced Blowout Control (ABC) simulator This is the latest generation tool developed by Scandpowers SPT Group in cooperation with Wild Well Control, Inc., both of which are world class leaders in their respective fields of dynamic simulation and well control. It is designed to analyze blowouts as well as operating parameters for the necessary kill process and is particularly useful for todays deep, high temperature, high pressure and prolific wells. It involves the latest technology in transient multiphase simulation, and provides the following unique features: > Live graphics display that provides comprehensive visualization of a blowout and its kill process. > Ease of setup and high speed efficiency allow multiple scenarios and kill options to be evaluated quickly, providing an ideal tool for real time support of well control events. > Results include blowout rate, kill rate, wellbore pressure profiles, volumes, fluid density and other dynamic kill parameters needed to restore control. Operational parameters, such as pump rate and fluid density, can be changed in response to developing well conditions, just as in an actual kill operation. Wellbore responses to such changes are visualized immediately in the live graphics. > Kill options include through the drill string on or off bottom, or through the relief well, land or offshore, as well as subsea blowouts. > Simulation engine is based on the most advanced version of OLGA, the industry acclaimed standard for multi-phase modeling developed by SPT. > Interactive data entry and graphics display are oriented towards engineering and operations, with results that can be viewed in real time, or captured in images for electronic transmission of video or still images for play back at the rig or other locations.

WELL CONTROL MODELING Kick Modeling WWCI is the only company in the well control industry that provides a Well Control Modeling Service, which is a very useful tool for supporting well plan evaluation as well as drilling operations. The software we use for modeling is the Kick program for simulating kick behavior. WWCI uses this proprietary well control simulator that was developed by Norways Rogaland Research Institute, and marketed by Scandpower. It is a complete time transient multi-phase flow simulator that models the full dynamic behavior of the well bore and its contents. The Kick program simulates a kick from time of influx, through flow check, shut in and subsequent kill operations. In comparison to other available software, this simulator allows changes in operating conditions to be made at any point during the well control process. Besides standard kill methods, it can also model the full effects of special procedures such as extended shut in of a kick, changing mud weight or pump rate during a kill, and lost circulation. The following are some of the ways that Kick can be used to provide well control engineering service for the planning and drilling of a well: > Kick Circulation Modeling for Well Planning Our simulations generate circulating kick tolerances based on circulating out, not just shut in, of well kicks over a range of magnitudes and sizes. Casing shoe fracture pressures as well as surface gas handling equipment are evaluated for their limits. Data from these simulations can also be used to evaluate casing design as well as surface well control equipment. This analysis is done for each section of the hole. > Kick Circulation Modeling for Drilling Operations Each set of Kick Modeling - Pressure Plot circulating kick tolerance chart is for a specific combination of fracture gradient at the casing shoe, mud weight range, casing setting depth and hole depth. They can be updated on a regular basis as changes occur while drilling a well. Examples of such changes that alter kick tolerances are increases in mud weight, unexpected results in shoe tests, unexpected pore pressures, change in casing points or setting a contingency liner. For example, such updates can be made at regular intervals, say every 1000 or 2000 of new hole, or every 1.0 ppg change in mud weight. > Special Well Control Operations The versatility of this simulator allows the modeling and evaluation of different well control procedures besides standard kill methods. These include changing mud weight, pump rate and other conditions during a kill, changing choke, line and gas separator sizes, extended shut in before or during a kill, volumetric kill to bleed gas to surface and maintain constant bottom hole pressure, and losing returns during a kill. Other changes can be made to model special operations as needed to evaluate alternatives either during well planning or in response to an actual well control situation. RELIEF WELL PLANNING Relief well intervention is a viable option to consider in resolving well control issues. New technology and WWCs systematic methodology for designing and implementing a relief well make the mechanics of relief well drilling easier and improves the reliability of the relief well intercept. WWC has successfully designed and implemented numerous relief well intervention programs. Topics covered in the relief well plans include: > > > > > > Intercept strategy General relief well design Directional plan Surface location selection Considerations for scenarios and rig capability Ranging tool methodology, type, suitability and issues
