STARGIRL FINAL ASSESSMENT: DIARY OF A _________________ What is it?

You will be creating an alternate persona of a student (one that comes in contact with Stargirl on a semi-regular basis) at Mica Area High School. You will write a journal that reflects on several of the novels events and creates a snapshot of the year covered in the book from your personas perspective. A few personas you could adopt: a cheerleader, a student in Stargirls homeroom, the founder of the Sunflower Club, any of the minor characters (someone on the Hot Seat jury, Alan Ferkoh, for example), member of the basketball team, etc. You will be creating a physical journal. Think about what type of medium your character would write in: would your persona write in a plain composition or spiral notebook, or in a leatherbound book? (Note: you are not required to buy a leather-bound notebook). Your journal should contain pictures and artifacts from your year at Mica.

Why are we doing this?

This project involves creative writing, analysis, reflection, and only a little artistic flair. You will be able to engage with the text on another level and take a different perspective. You will also be able to discuss the whole book in the project instead of just focusing on one part.

What are the requirements?

Your journal should have: - A prologue/introduction describing who your alternate persona is and why you decided to adopt it. - 8 entries consisting of 4 single-spaced pages total. The page limit will be enforced. If you would like to hand write your entries, feel free to copy them over. o 6 of these entries will center around specific events from the text (you will choose some of these from a list) o 2 of these entries will be dedicated to character development who is your persona? What else are you experiencing in school? - At least 5 artifacts from your year: a photograph, drawing, memento, etc. (examples of artifacts will be shown in class) - An epilogue that describes what your character has learned from the school year. This should be brief 1-2 paragraphs. - A physical form

Due Dates and Schedule:

Friday, March 21: Your persona should be selected and you should have an outline of your prologue (Who is your persona? Why did you choose them?). Be prepared to turn in a hard copy of this outline. Wednesday, April 2: You should have selected your 4 artifacts. Be prepared to turn in a list and brief description of these artifacts. Friday, April 4: You should have chosen your journal entry subjects and created brief outlines of the entries. What will you talk about? What reaction do you have to the events in your journals? Be prepared to turn in a hard copy of these outlines. Friday, April 11: Final journal due.
