Attempt any four questions. Be brief & to the point. Q1: Explain the terms : a) b) c) d) Dynamic & kinematic viscosity Newtonian & non Newtonian fluids. Compressible & in compressible fluids Surface tension & capillarity (12)

Q2:a) Prove that the relationship between surface tension & pressure inside a droplet of liquid in excess of outside pressure is given by p=4 /d where = surface tension (N/m) & d= dia. (6) b) A mass of liquid weights 500 N when exposed to standard earths gravity g=9.806m/sec2. What is its mass? What will be its weight in a planet with acceleration due to gravity of i) 3.5 m/sec2 and ii)18.0 m/sec2 . (6) Q3:a) Derive the continuity equation in three dimensional Cartesian co-ordinates. (10) b) Describe two uses and limitations of the flow nets. Q4: A plate area (0.3*0.3)m slides on an inclined plate, inclined at 300 to horizontal moves with a velocity 0.41m/sec & has a weight of 250N & an oil film in between plate &inclined plane of 0.2 m thickness. Find the viscosity of oil. (4) (12)

Q5: Determine the pressure difference between points A &B for the set up in fig (b). Q6: a) Distinguish between Gauge & absolute pressure. b) Convert a pressure head of 100m of water to i) kerosene of sp. Gravity 0.81 ii) carbon tetra chloride of sp. Gravity 1.60.
