PROBLEM WITH THE EXISTING PROTOCOL The existing protocol used (RIPv2) did not support large network

because it: Is only limited to 15 hop counts Is expose to routing loop Has slow convergence especially in large network Cannot support multiple path for the same route

HYPOTHESIS The efficiency of the protocol will determine the performance of the network: the lesser the hop counts (shortest path), the better.

OSPF AND EIGRP Things both protocols have in common. 1. Fast convergence 2. Supports VLSM 3. Take up small bandwidth

CONTRASTING OSPF AND EIGRP

OSPF
Can support devices by vendors Link state protocol Forms adjacencies with DR/BDR Uses interface cost Requires manual summarization Can build a hierarchy and scalable network

EIGRP
Only support Cisco devices Distance vector protocol Forms adjacencies with neighbors Uses metric based on bandwidth and delay Supports automatic summarization Cannot build a hierarchy network because does not need hierarchical network
