DISCOVERY TABLE

Developmental Objective How beads can create different sounds with different manipulations. Activity Children will explore the different types of beaded necklaces varied in size, shape and texture. The goal of this activity is for the children to learn the different sounds and textures of the beads. Also, this activity will allow them to learn how different materials can manipulate the beads. **PLEASE MAKE SRUE BEADED NECKLACES ARE SPRAYED WITH SANITAB AT THE END OF THE DAY** Foundations SC.1.48 Explore objects with various properties. ART
Developmental Objective Enjoy creating a personal wind chime. Set-up First, make sure that the childs name is on masking tape and placed inside the terracotta pot. o They will be working with the same pot throughout the week and we need to make sure the pots do not get mixed up. Monday o Place a mess mat on table o Place GREEN acrylic paint in bowlpaint located on planning shelf For infants use GREEN washable paint in cabinet located in middle classroom o Place paintbrushes on table o Have each child paint on their pot Tuesday o Place a mess mat on table o Place BLUE acrylic paint in bowlpaint located on planning shelf For infants use BLUE washable paint - in cabinet located in middle classroom o Place paintbrushes on table o Have each child paint their own special object If they do not bring their own object from home, have them select a wooden object or small planting pot located on planning shelf o **PLEASE PLACE ITEM ON DRYING RACK WITH A PIECE OF MASKING TAPE WITH NAME ON IT BELOW ITEM SO THEY DO NOT GET MIXED UP** Wednesday o Place a mess mat on tablepaint located on planning shelf o Place YELLOW acrylic paint in bowl For infants use YELLOW washable paint - in cabinet located in middle classroom o Place sponges on tablesponges located on planning shelf o Have each child paint their pot with sponges o ***IF CHILD HAS NOT YET PAINTED SPECIAL OBJECT HAVE THEM DO SO FIRST!*** Thursday AND Friday o AM Place a mess mat on table Place Rubber Cement on table Place Tiles on table Have the children glue tiles to their pots. These tiles will be in strips of three. Allow them to place their tiles where they want. o PM Place a mess mat on table Mix glue with a small amount of water and place on table Place paintbrushes on table Place ribbon on table Allow children to glue ribbon onto pot They can do this by placing ribbon on pot and paint glue over it or dip ribbon in glue and then stick to pot

Activity Children will be creating their own wind chime. They will be doing this in separate stages throughout the week. They will be able to use different colors, utensils and items. At the end of each terracotta pot, a special item will hang as a wind chime from a tree in the playground area. The children will be able to see how they move in the wind and hear the sounds it creates. The goal of this activity is for the children to see how each step creates something that makes sound at the end. ***Make sure that each child has painted a special object*** Foundations

INFANT ACTIVITY
Developmental Objective Explore and create different sounds Set-up There will be no set-up for this activity. I will already have it ready - All that is needed is to bring two wooden and metal spoons with you as you go outside. Also bring a large blanket to place on the ground by the wall so that the infants can crawl on it. The blanket and spoons are on the planning shelf. Activity There will be a music wall displayed outside on the fence. This wall will have different objects hanging from it for the infants to hit/bang with different spoons to explore the different sounds each object makes. Encourage the children to play with the wall. * If the weather is too cold to go outside, there will be a small music wall inside the center on the side of the climber. There is a wooden spoon placed by the climber for the children to use to bang on the different items. *There will also be other musical instruments by the climber for the children to explore. *There are also ASL signs on the table. Encourage the children to use them throughout their meals and snacks. Foundations

GROSS MOTOR
Developmental Objective Movement and sound. Creating sound with body movements. Set-up There will be a Dance Floor for the children to dance on. See table below for which flooring will need to be set up. o I will have the Dance Floor set up each day but if the Dance Floor gets ruined throughout the morning activity, please put new flooring down for the afternoon. Flooring pieces can be found on/by planning shelf and will need to be taped to the tile floor by CD player with packing tape. Have children dace to the song Walking, Walking on the Dance Floor. This is on the CD that is placed in the CD Player. It is track number 2. Activity The children will dance/move to the song Walking, walking on a textured Dance Floor throughout the week. After the song, they will be encouraged to do different body movements on the Dance Floor. These different body movements could include: reach for the sky, pat their legs, jump up and down, stomp their feet, tip toe, and any other body movement. If they want to keep dancing on the floor then allow them to continue to dance to the rest of the songs on the CD. **The children will also be singing, If your happy and you know it after circle time. They will use different body motions for each new verse. Please see circle time instructions. Foundations

For If Your Happy and Your Know It there will be action changes for each new verse. These actions are indicated on song sheet.
