" chose this activity because it was Dr. #euss$ birthday wee% and " thought it would be fun for the children to ma%e a &at in the 'at hat. " found a fun recipe to ma%e puffy paint. 'owever we did not end up ma%ing hats at all we had too much fun with the puffy paint. " also chose this activity for DRDP measure () Recognition of own s%ills and accomplishments. " wanted them to have fun with a new type of paint and see the different things they would ma%e with it. *nother reason " chose this activity was for DRDP measure +,) &uriosity and initiative " was curious to see if they would be e-cited to come to the tables and ma%e the paint and paint with it.
o What were the strong points of this activity?

" did this activity in two very different ways the first time did not wo% out at all li%e " had planned so the strong pint in the first activity was rolling with the punches and letting the %ids have fun while " was pretending li%e it was the plan all along. .he second time " did the activity the strong points were %nowing that one of the children did not want her paints mi-ed together so " made sure she had her own separate bowl while the other children mi-ed all of theirs together.

.here were significant changes " made the second time " did the activity. #ince the first time they got to participate in ma%ing the paint but it didn$t turn out " made " for them so they would be able to paint this time. " also sat and painted with the children they were used to normal paint so " wanted to show them a different %ind of way to paint to %eep the paint puffy. #ometimes a little bit of adult guided e-perience is important when presenting new materials and wor%ing ne-t to the children may %eep them engaged longer (0pstein (,,1 p.222!. When children as%ed what " was
doing " as%ed them if they remembered how they go to play with the shaving cream and food coloring well this time they get to paint. .he children seemed e-cited they got to paint with something they helped ma%e. o 0valuate the success of these revisions. 'ow might you improve ne-t time? (3ocus on your teaching s%ills!

.he revisions wor%ed very well the paint turned out this time and they got to e-perience the painting part. 'owever " would not change having them participate in the ma%ing of the paint because " still thought it was an important part of it. "t reminded me of a coo%ing show where they show the steps but also have the finished product off to the side to save time. "f " were to do this activity again " would have already made paint off to the side but also let them participate in ma%ing their own. " might also demonstrate first during circle time how to mi- the paint and also do it along with them when they are ma%ing it. .he te-t boo% says that teachers can encourage in depth e-ploration by manipulating the materials themselves (0pstein (,,1 p. 22+!.
