Background info: *Each group has a different SE to focus on each week for 6 weeks. *SEs change from week to week, rotating through the groups. *2-3 times a week students are given an activity that corresponds with their SE. The activity is designed to help students understand what they need to grasp with each SE. *Some of the SEs are based on recent CBA data, the others are chosen so that they fit with the story, the district curriculum, and/or high frequency of questions on STAAR. Focused SEs: *6.2B Use context to determine or clarify the meaning of unfamiliar or multiple meaning words. (on going problem for my students all CBAs data) *6.10D Synthesize and make logical connections between ideas within a text and across two or three texts representing similar or different genres. (November CBA data) 6.6A Summarize the elements of plot development (rising action, turning point, climax, falling action, denouement) in various works of fiction. 6.6B Recognize dialect and conversational voice and explain how authors use dialect to convey character. 6.9 Analyze, make inferences, and draw conclusions about the authors purpose in cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts. 6.10A Summarize the main idea and supporting details in text, demonstrating an understanding that a summary does not include opinions.

The theme for this round of literature circles (about 6 weeks) is: Conflict and Cultural Differences F read aloud picture book, Torinas World. Ask students to make connections with this book. Text to self, text to text (literature circle book), and text to world. Individual groups: 1. The Cay - *6.2B Use context to determine or clarify the meaning of unfamiliar or multiple
meaning words. (on going problem for my students all CBAs data)

Todays activity I Have, Who Has with vocabulary. Some of the vocabulary they have already encountered, and some will be new. Pre-teaching the vocabulary will assist with comprehension during reading. Students will have to find the meaning of their I Have words prior to beginning the game. 2. The Giver 6.9 - Analyze, make inferences, and draw conclusions about the authors purpose
in cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts.

Todays activity Venn diagram as a group, comparing authors purpose to todays read aloud and the connection with their book. Students should use the STAAR stem questions when completing the venn diagram. Literature Circle Reflections, each member will reflect upon their contribution to todays meeting. 3. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry *6.10D Synthesize and make logical connections between
ideas within a text and across two or three texts representing similar or different genres.

Todays activity Character Analysis Chart, each student will complete this throughout the entire book. Character Traits Web the group will complete one together, making sure to focus on the characters dialect and voice.

5. The Devils Arithmetic 6.10A Summarize the main idea and supporting details in text,
demonstrating an understanding that a summary does not include opinions.

Todays activity Organizer for Summarizing, the group will complete this paper together, focusing on their assigned SE and the STAAR based questions. Literature Circle Reflections, each member will reflect upon their contribution to todays meeting. 6. Number the Stars - 6.6A Summarize the elements of plot development (rising action,
turning point, climax, falling action, denouement) in various works of fiction.
