Elementary Education Science Third Grade Science Animals Endangered Species Non-print (videos, animations, websites, etc.) materials Scientific Observations: SC2.1.1.d Describe objects, organisms, or events using pictures, words and numbers This lesson will give children basic knowledge about endangered species, using the Glogster page we created for a visual aid. The lesson will start out with the basic definition of what endangered means and then we will show a short video. Next, we will move on to what can cause endangerment. Then we will discuss a couple specific animals and turn the kids loose to do some independent research about one specific endangered animal. Students will have to use a computer to research their specific endangered species and then make their glogster. The teacher will also use a computer and projector to present a glog to the class, before they start researching, to teach them what an endangered species is. Objective 1: Understand what it means for a species to be endangered. Objective 2: Identify the causes of species endangerment. Objective 3: Become familiar with some specific species that are endangered. Objective 4: Give the children a more broadened sense of the world. Objective 5: Understand why endangerment is problematic. Objective 6: Give the children ideas about how endangerment can be fixed. Objective 7: Create simple Glogster presentation showing species, where its from, one interesting fact, when the species became endangered, and why the species is endangered.

Preparing the Student Assessment of Student Learning

To prepare for this lesson, students will need to know how to use Glogster.

The assessment of the student learning would be more individual because after the lesson, their assignment/project The remember portion of Blooms Taxonomy would be incorporated in the lesson plan as the teacher explains

what endangered species are, which animals are endangered and why they are endangered. The students will apply analyze, and create when they make their Glogster. Lesson Sequence 1) The teacher will present the Glogster starting with the video 2) The teacher will explain the information (which is underneath the video on the Glogster) about endangered animals 3) The teacher will present examples of endangered species 4) The teacher will explain the little project: Go to the computer lab and find specific information about one endangered animal. Once the students have picked their animal, they will create a simple Glogster about their animal saying where it is from, why it is endangered, when it went on the endangered list and one more fun fact about the animal. The teacher may need to assist the students with some aspects of Glogster. 5) The students will then give a brief explanation about their assigned animal. The teacher will measure the success of the lesson plan by how interested in the subject matter the students are and how much the students participate. The project will tell the teacher if the students understand what an endangered species is and why they need to be protected. Their presentations will show how well they can relate the information. How well the students use their class times will show how serious they are about the topic and if they were really paying attention during the lecture.
