5th Grade Classroom Management Plan

by Kevyn Webb Purpose Statement: Our classroom is a safe, positive, and creative learning environment that is appropriate for each student. Students will be actively engaged in their educational development and challenged to reach their full potential.

In Our Class: We come to class prepared with materials and a positive attitude. We participate and ask questions. We show respect to each other and our school. We follow all directions the first time given. We use words that compliment, help, and support people. Procedures: Morning Entry: 1. Walk in quietly 2. Place belongings in your desk 3. Place homework in the red bin on the shelf by the door 4. Prepare pencil, eraser, and paper for class 5. Sit down at your desk 6. Begin working on the assignment on the board Going to Specials: 1. Put materials away 2. Line up in numerical order 3. Listen to teachers instructions 4. Walk to next class on the right side of the hall in single file Dismissal: 1. Fill out assignment planner 2. Gather belongings 3. Sit quietly at your desk 4. Wait to be dismissed Consequences (to be delivered in the following order): 1. Class Reminder: Teacher verbally reminds the whole class of the rules. 2. Individual Reminder: Teacher communicates individually with student and discusses behavior issue/s. 3. Reflection: Allow student time alone in designated area in the classroom to reflect on the situation. 4. Modification: Make a change to either the students location or schedule to prevent future misbehavior. 5. Parent Contact: Inform the child that a parent will be contacted. Contact a parent according to indicated preference. 6. Talk with Principal: Provide referral slip to student. Call office to inform staff that student is coming.

Action Plan: 1. Share the Plan: Provide a written copy to administration for approval. Make adjustments if needed. Share with team teachers. Send plan home to parents at the beginning of the year. 2. Develop a Tool Kit: behavior contract for students behavior contract for parents to be sent home for signature posters for the purpose statement, rules, and consequences office referral slip parent contact slip with section for student comments 3. Teach the Plan to the Students: During the first week of school, use activities to teach the purpose statement, rules, and consequences. 4. Review the Plan: review periodically as needed and after long breaks, i.e., winter break and spring break).
