Content Standards: 2.1, 2.2 Learning Standards: 2.1.2 Able to recognise and articulate initial, medial and the final sounds in single syllable words within given context: (c),(d) 2.1.3 Able to blend two to four phonemes into recognizable words and read them aloud. 2.1.4 Able to segment words into phonemes to spell. 2.2.3 Able to read and understand sentences (3-5 words) in linear and non-linear texts with guidance. 2.2.4 Able to read a paragraph of 3 -5 simple sentences. Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: a. Identify sounds of /k/ (c), / k/ (k), /k/ (ck) in single syllable words. b. Blend two to four phonemes into recognisable words and read them aloud. c. Segment words into phonemes to spell. d. Read sentences (3-5 words) in linear text with correct pronunciation. e. Read a paragraph of 3 - 5 simple sentences with correct pronunciation. Cross-curricular elements: Verbal linguistic, Kinesthetic. Teaching aids : LCD projector, desktop, pictures cards, letter cards, word cards, a sack, textbooks and activity books. Steps: Set Induction 1. Teacher shows letter cards and gets pupils to say the phonemes.

Activities 1. 2. 3. 4. In We Sound the Same game, a pupil picks a sound card from a sack and other pupils take turn to say the phonemes and match the sound card to the correct picture card. In Magic Sack game, teacher says the rhyme, pi cks a word card from the sack and segments the word. Pupils say the word. In Say Together, pupils read the poems silently. Teacher reads aloud the poems and pupils read along with the teacher. Pupils read aloud the poems in groups and then individually. Pupils do reading and writing exercise in the activity books. (page 47,48,49 and 50)
