While the students are out in the hallway, tell the students to listen for which instrument family they hear. Have the students sit in a circle on the floor. Have the students close their eyes and raise their hand for the instrument family they heard (say the first choice - woodwinds, the second choice - strings, and the last choice - percussion). Tap and say the following rhythm (titi ta titi ta). Have students echo back. Take attendance by having each student play a rhythm (titi ta titi ta) on the glockenspiel. Review Little Silver Moon song. Erase phrases of the songs (one phrase at a time - four phrases all together). Have the students clap on the words that we erase. Have the students say the rhythm while they clap. Tell the students that they are going to be in groups and have rhythm cards to figure out the rhythm of the first part of Little Silver Moon. (Remind them to leave the rhythm cards in the order until they hear the next set of directions.) Divide the students into groups of three (there might be some groups with only two in the group). Review the notes on the rhythm cards. Hand out rhythm cards. Have the students clap and say the rhythm of just the first part of Little Silver Moon. Have the students figure out the rhythm for the first phrase of Little Silver Moon. After the students have notated the rhythm of the first phrase of Little Silver Moon, have the students in their groups make their own rhythms. After the students have their own rhythms and have practiced clapping and saying the rhythms, have the groups share their rhythms. Have the students put rhythm cards away and get into a circle again on the floor. Sing the 1st verse and have the students listen for the four things that the boy does in the song (answer: builds the boat, sails the boat, catches the fish, and bring the fish to Liza). Have the students share their answers with their classmates and then share with the class. Have the students listen for the phrase Ise the by that sails her and listen for whether it goes high or whether it goes low. Sing the 1st verse again. Have all the students show the answer with their hands (have the students close their eyes and then show the answer with their hands). Sing the 1st verse again, but have the students tap their laps on the beat. Teach the 1st verse in parts. Sing the whole 1st verse all together. Teach the hand clapping part for the verse part. Then add it to the verse while singing the 1st verse. Have the students stand up (still in the circle). Review the refrain from the Ise the By song and do the hand clapping part with the refrain.

Notes/Extension: Review/Prep for the instrument parts (glockenspiels and cymbals) for Little Silver Moon song. Teach the rhythm pattern pat-pat (titi) pat (ta) rest clap (ta). (Rhythm for the instrument parts: titi ta [glockenspiels] rest ta [cymbals].) Add instruments.
