-A teacher or professor absolutely has the right to demand a certain kind of behavior in the classroom.

First off it should be common sense that teachers deserve respect because they are our elders and know way more on the subject they are teaching then we do. In my opinion it is extremely rude and disrespectful to walk in late to a class and also to leave early. I think the point in the paper that actually crossed the line was when the professor told the student to get your shit together. Maybe that is what the student needed to hear, however it could have been worded differently. -I dont care if you are a graduate student or whatever you are; there is no reason to email a professor that you dont even know in that manor. I would think that because the student is at a higher level that they would know by now that that kind of demeanor is not acceptable. I would hope that if I were a teacher I would receive respect that is nowhere near reflecting the student in the email. The students attitude and word choice shows that the student almost expects to be able to walk around and do what he wants. Words like bothered, disappointed, probable and sheer all represent the students arrogance. A student really only has the right to complain if a teacher did not make their expectations noted or clear, however that was not the case in this piece. -My initial reaction to this piece was that I thought it was sad. I thought that the students reaction to leave the class was blown was out of proportion and I agree that he needs to get his shit together. He is going to get nowhere in life with that attitude. I was not really shocked at the professors reply because it was well deserved despite the word choices. I expect that a professor can say whatever they want, we are not in high school anymore. -I would definitely take this professors class because they clearly stated what they expect from the students and he/she doesnt mess around. -I wouldnt want to want to work with this student because they are too arrogant in expecting to get their way. I could see right away that we would not get along, however I respect that the student speaks their mind. The way he expected the professor to see his way of thinking I could see him doing in a group setting when he does not agree.
