I Had Barbara: Womens Ties and Whartons Roman Fever. Differences: A Journal Of Feminist Cultural Studies 17.3 (2006): 37-51. Academic Search Complete. Web 7 Apr. 2014. In this source, the Author first does a short summer of the text. She goes on talking about setting and how it relates to the story. The author then writes about the characters individually and how the events brought up affects both of them. The significance of the phrase I had Barbra comes up and how at that moment things changed after the fact. The goal of this source is just a basic overview of the story and parts that matter most. This source will help me because along with symbolism the setting is important. By using this source it gives me information about the setting and the two characters. This article I think is just an article is not biased but is not straight facts. It is mostly an article based on how the author interprets certain things about the story, such as the phrase I Had Barbra. Compared to other sources this one is more based around a certain topic and will be handy when writing my paper. Petry, Alice Hall. A Twist Of Crimson Silk: Edith Whartons Roman Fever. Studies in Short Fictions 24.2 (1987): 163. Literary Reference Center Plus. Web. 7 Apr. 2104.

Luhta 2 Stereotype is a big topic that the author discusses in this article. Not only has that but the other symbolic actions within the story. One example is the knitting and what it represents. The article is not biased but does have some personal view tied into it. It is not strictly on facts, but does not push on an idea. Other than those points its only a short summer of when these items come into play. This article will be of great use due to the information about symbolism. That being one of my main points of writing the paper, it will be great to have more than one article based on this topic. Unlike other articles this one has a specific topic that it does not stray from. The goal of this source is to just give information that is mostly fact based about main points of the short story. Roman Fever." Short Stories for Students. Ed. Ira Mark Milne. Vol. 7. Detroit: Gale Group, 2000. 298-315. Gale Virtual Reference Library. Web. 3 Apr. 2014. This source is an overall summery of the story. It breaks it down into categories such as the plot summery, themes, Character background, and critical overview. The Plot summery goes over the basic story plot about the two women in Rome revisiting past events. The themes explained by the author are Friendship, Rivalry, and Love and Passion. The Author goes on further by talking about the different backgrounds of the characters so there is a better understanding on them. Finally they give information on the critical overview which is just background information on the story and author. This source is definitely of use. They have everything in order under a table of contents so everything is easy to find. The Author did not write anything biased because it is strictly a source of facts and information. It is full of useful facts about many things I will be able

Luhta 3 to put into my writing. This source compared to others is that it has more information than most. It has many things to it when another source may only have one of these things.

Selina, Jamil S. "Wharton's 'Roman Fever.'." Explicator 65.2 (Winter 2007): 99-101. Rpt. in Short Story Criticism. Ed. Jelena O. Krstovic. Vol. 120. Detroit: Gale, 2009. Literature Resources from Gale. Web. 3 Apr. 2014. This Author of this source mainly explains the symbolism used in the story. They explain the significance of items such as the knitting needles and also the meaning of the title. The source along with the explanation of the symbols give a brief summer of the story as it proceeds. The symbol explained in the story link the past with the present, and also the colors of things link with the overall themes of the story. The title is explained with past events around the time the story was written and how that relates to the story. This source is useful because it gives a lot of examples of the symbols in the story. Since one of my ways of analyzing is symbolism this source has a lot of use to me. This source does not have a biased view only because it is more of a factual source. The goal of this source is to thoroughly explain most of the symbol in the story and they achieved that goal. Compared to other sources its not as long but it makes up for the amount of useful information it gives. Wharton, Edith. Roman Fever. The Norton Introduction to Literature. Ed. Spencer R. Jones. New York: 118-28. Print This source is just the story itself. The story is about two Women Mrs. Slade and Mrs. Ansley who meet in a Roman caf and sit on a terrace overlooking the sights of Rome. The

Luhta 4 sight of the daughter of Mrs. Slade brings up past events that will change lives. They start talking about past events that took place in the same place they are now, Rome. As these things come to the surface, Mrs. Ansley finds out about the truth of her husband Mr. Ansley and Mrs. Slade had an affair many years ago, and the outcome of that was Barbra. This overwhelming news brings the two women further apart than ever. This source is the most important source. Without this source I wouldnt have anything to research. This story gives me all the most important parts elements to research and gives me insight about the author to pick the appropriate criticism. Without this story I wouldnt have anything to research. The source is not biased only due to the fact that it is the story itself. Compared to the other sources I have this is the one I will reference the most.
