in America? Do you think that illegal immigrants should be deported or should they be granted citizenship to the Land of Opportunity? This is an ongoing debate and constant battle within the government of the United States. Many articles state their opinions of immigration reform and whether it should be done or not. Susan Davis, author of the article, which was featured in USA Today, GOP opens path to 12 million stated, The House Republicans unveiled a set of principals that would allow the nations 12 million undocumented immigrants to legally live and work in the USA. (Davis) Reed Karaim, author of Immigration gives all of the possible challenges and problems that the United States would face if immigrants were allowed to become legal citizens. In addition to this, he talks about job opportunities for these immigrants, stating, Migrant workers pick strawberries in California. An immigration reform bill under consideration in the U.S. Senate would create more temporary work visas for agricultural workers. (Karaim) He closes his article with stating, America has always been a nation of immigrants. The current wave of immigration is similarly transforming the nations identity. This demographic shift is making an immigration reform inevitable. (Karaim) Susan Davis news article, written in 2014, is more so to relay information about a current situation that the government is facing. Although she tells important information to the audience, her article is not as strong as Reed Karaims. She tells about the Republicans point of view on the immigration reform and why they passed this bill. Davis stated, Republicans may attract more support from Hispanic Americans who voted overwhelmingly for President Obama. (Davis 1) She writes about current meetings that the government has had, stating, This document was not voted upon the GOP conference and clearly does not represent the consensus of Republican members. (Davis) As a reader, this article is not as strong because of what it addresses. Davis article addresses and effects government officials and tells about their wellbeing, whereas, Karaims article tells more about the wellbeing of American citizens and how they will be affected. Although this article is good to retrieve information about what the government has currently talked about, it does not directly affect the audience. Davis did report some of the same evidence and information that Karaim reported on, including Implementing a temporary worker program to address the economic needs of the country. (Davis)
