THE PROCESS OF INHALATION AND EXHALATION

What happens in INHALATION process???

Air inhaled

rib cage moves upwards and outwards.

The thoracic cavity becomes bigger causing the air pressure to decrease.

Diaphragm contracts, moves downwards and flattens. The higher air pressure outside forces the air into the lungs.

Air out/ exhalation The rib cage moves downwards and inwards.

Thoracic cavity becomes smaller causing the air pressure to increase.

Diaphragm expands and curves upwards.

The higher air pressure in the lungs forces the air out.
