Reflection 2 Disposition criteria


Educators must display certain dispositions in order to be successful teachers. Some of these dispositions come naturally to us. hile other dispositions! re"uire more #or$ and

self e%aluatin&. After re%ie#in& the list of dispositions ' noticed that there are se%eral that ' need to #or$ on. (ut ' also noticed ' also posses a lot of the dispositions already. )he first disposition ' thou&ht ' possessed #as D2. *Arri%es on time and is #ellprepared+ mana&es time #ell,. Althou&h ' ha%e not used this s$ill in a class room yet! ' ha%e sho#n this throu&h #or$in& as a custodian. As a custodian throu&h the -olt .ublic School district! ' had to be punctual e%ery day. 'f ' #asn/t it meant it #as time lost on accomplishin& the tas$s of the day set by my superiors. hile at #or$ ' used my time

sufficiently by almost al#ays accomplishin& more than #hat #as e0pected of me. hile #or$in& as a custodian ' also adhered to D1. *2aintains positi%e relationships and collaborates effecti%ely #ith peers! super%isors! support professionals! students! and parents., hile #or$in& as a summer custodian! this basically meant ' #as at the bottom

of the food chain. 't #as re"uired of me to be positi%e! respectful and courteous of my superiors. E%en #hen they #ould as$ me to do unappealin& 3obs! ' did them #ith a smile on my face. ' #ould also try to reach out to my co-#or$ers and ha%e positi%e relationships #ith them. As a team #e accomplished this by eatin& lunch to&ether! and al#ays offerin& a helpin& hand. 'f ' had a problem #ith a co- #or$er! ' remained professional and 3ust continued on #ith my #or$. 'f the situation made me uncomfortable! ' #ould tal$ to my superiors and they #ould handle the situations.

)here ha%e been situations #here ' had to deal #ith conflict on my o#n. Durin& this situation ' sho#ed D4 *2aintains poise! especially in emotional and stressful situations., hile ' #as a raffle tic$et sale associate at Elderado 5olf Course! it #as my 3ob to sell raffle tic$ets and $eep the customers happy durin& their rounds. 6n my last day of #or$ for the summer ' #as #or$in& the lea&ue ni&ht. As my ne0t &roup approached ' noticed they #ere not particularly happy. )hey #ere frustrated because! the &roup in front of them #as mo%in& %ery slo#ly. ith a smile on my face ' tried my best to assure the

customers that the ran&ers #ould try their best to speed up play. 6ne &entleman be&an to yell at me and actually stole my radio and attempted to call the pro shop. )he entire time ' tried to $eep my poise and not let the customer upset me. After my shift my boss had heard about #hat had happened and assured me ' handle the situation correctly. 'n the instance ' also displayed D7 *E0hibits a positi%e and professional attitude., E%en #hen customers #ere either yellin& and or i&norin& me! ' stayed positi%e. )he last three years ' ha%e been as$ed to come bac$ and #or$ my same tic$et 3ob because of my positi%e attitude but also because of my other "ualities. As time passed ' #as e%entually as$ed to come bac$ as a be%era&e cart &irl. 2y ne# 3ob re"uired me to use my sales s$ills! and of course my positi%e attitude. hen #or$in&

in retail! the &oal is to sell the product. -o#e%er! my 3ob became so much more than that. 2y 3ob became buildin& relationships #ith the players! and pro%idin& the best e0perience possible. ' sho#ed ' could utili8e D9. Displays confidence and enthusiasm. ' #as al#ays &reetin& my customers #ith smiles! and helpful tips on the &olf course. (y sho#in& my confident personality! it made me %ery friendly. As a result ' had more sales. ' full

heartedly belie%e that ' can utili8e all of these dispositions ' possess successfully in a classroom. (ut ' am not perfect and ' do ha%e thin&s ' can #or$ on. 6ne of the first dispositions is D: *2aintains a professional appearance., (ein& a colle&e student my #ardrobe consist mainly of s#eat shirts and s#eat pants. E%en thou&h ' #ould ne%er #ear them in a #or$ en%ironment! my #ardrobe needs to mature. ' need to be sure that ' build a #ardrobe that is professional and conser%ati%e for the #or$ place. 't/s important to me to loo$ professional at all times. ' ha%e already started this process by consultin& my parents for ad%ice! especially my dad. -e is a principal of a middle school and has &i%en me %ery %aluable insi&ht on ho# ' should not 3ust act but loo$. )he second disposition ' need to #or$ on is D; *En&a&es in meanin&ful selfe%aluation and reflection+ Recepti%e to feed bac$., 2y #ea$ness learnin& to not ta$e offense to the criticism! but to &ro# from it. ' am a sensiti%e person! and o%er the years ha%e #or$ed on &ettin& a tou&her s$in. )his can only be done by hearin& the criticism and #or$in& on channelin& it to a positi%e chan&e. )he last disposition ' feel ' need to #or$ on is D10 *Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal! listenin& and communication s$ills., )he one issue for me #ith this disposition is bein& able to communicate clearly throu&h the #ritten lan&ua&e. ' ha%e stru&&led my #hole life #ith readin& and #ritin& problems. '/m constantly tryin& to e0pand my %ocabulary and ma$in& my #ritin& flo#. )he second problem ' ha%e #ith this disposition is ma$in& sure ' tal$ slo#ly and clearly. '/%e been $no#n to amon& my friends and family to tal$ fast. ' need to learn ho# to slo# do#n my speech #hen ' &et e0cited about a topic. Also! ' need to be sure ' do not use the #ord *li$e, out of conte0t. ' ha%e been told that usin& this #ord out of conte0t is not %ie#ed %ery hi&hly. Especially!

#hen li$e is said %ery often in speech. '/m slo#ly #or$in& on catchin& myself use this #ord and thin$in& before ' spea$. ' lo%e hearin& all sides to situations and understandin& perspecti%es! ' 3ust ha%e to #or$ on communicatin& mine more clearly. E%eryone has stren&ths and #ea$nesses. hat/s important is identifyin& those

#ea$nesses and con%ertin& them as a stren&th. ' hope that ' #ill e%entually be able to ma$e my #ea$nesses my stren&ths and become an outstandin& educator.
