Raymond January 15, 2014 ENGL 1102-007 WP #1 The most colorful relative I have in my uncle John. From talking with my uncle I found out the name of my deceased grandfather on my Dads side of the family. His name was John Ross and he died before I was born. He also told me some interesting stories about my grandfather that I didnt know. My uncle told me about the time my grandfather was arrested in a boycott when he was younger. My grandfather was arrested when he refused to give up his seat at a diner that was for whites only. My uncle said my grandfather told him that it was the hardest thing he had to do. My grandfather said that it took him his hardest to try and stay nonviolent. He told my uncle that they did the most disrespectful and most unsanitary things to the people who was with him. He described how my grandfather told him how they would call him nigger or spit in his face while they poured different things on the people boycotting. My uncle said that my grandfather told him that the scariest thing was looking into the eyes of a raging white man not knowing whether or not he would be killed or beaten severely. Talking to my uncle I also found out that my father was in the Navy before I was born. He also told me about the relatives that live in other parts of the country like my cousins that stay in Baltimore that I have never met. Talking with my uncle John from my dads side of the family was very helpful with gathering information for my family tree.
