April 16, 2014 Dear Human Resources Director/School Administrator: I am writing to apply for the position of Math teacher

(grades 9-12) in your school district. I believe my ability to create meaningful and supportive relationships with students, my knowledge of and enthusiasm for Mathematics, and my ability to integrate technology into the classroom make me a standout applicant for this open position on your school staff. Creating meaningful relationships with students is something I find to be incredibly important in the classroom. Without these relationships, which lead to an atmosphere of respect and mutual enjoyment, it is difficult to build rapport in a classroom. In my experience, when students feel comfortable enough to talk to a teacher about the root of the problem they are having in a specific class, it can create a classroom where the students can build trust and not be afraid to explore the unknown. When students are unafraid to be wrong, then the real learning can begin. As a learner and a teacher, I have an undying love and curiosity for Mathematics. I enjoy identifying new and exciting problems, as well as challenging students with problems which prompt them to fully explore their understanding. A teacher showing this interest and drive to discover more about her subject area can really be inspirational to students and inspire them to delve deeper into the information they are learning. I strive to incorporate digital media and 21st century technology into my classes and lesson plans on a daily basis. It is common for my lessons to include YouTube videos which contain supplemental information, PowerPoint presentations that outline the information to be learned, and Geometers Sketchpad images that allow me to interact with geometric figures and graphs without the hassle of erasing and redrawing figures on the whiteboard/chalkboard. Doing so allows students with different learning styles to remain engaged with the lesson. I also have experience using Skyward, an online grading and attendance system in use at Westwood High School. I believe I would make an excellent candidate for the Mathematics teacher position with your school district. My references are available upon request for your consideration, and Im available for interviews via telephone at (906) 228-3358 or in person. I am also available via email at ariel.j.dennis@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
