You will use what you learn about writing, solving, and graphing inequalities and compound inequalities

to work with animal facts.

I will divide you into groups. Each group will decide on a favorite pet. Each group member must research and bring to class the feeding guidelines for your pet. Question: Why do the guidelines vary? Name some of the criteria that must be taken into account when deciding how much to feed a pet. Write an inequality in words and in symbols that can be used to describe the amount of food, f, a pet should have per day. Example: A beagle needs from 2.25 to 3.75 cups of food per day. This can be written as 2.25f3.75. Graph your inequalities. Conduct a survey of at least 50 people. Ask, "Has your family ever gotten a pet from an animal shelter?" Combine the data and calculate the following: total number surveyed, number of yes answers, and the fraction and percent of yes answers. A shelter needs at least $600 for a vet to treat all their animals. A donor will give $20 for each yes answer and add $2 for each no answer on the survey. Write and graph an inequality for this situation. Will the results of your survey generate enough money to pay the vet? Present your findings to the class using one source of technology.
